FLISoL UTP 2024: 20 Years Promoting Digital Freedom

Overview

In 2024 I was interviewed by Universidad Tecnológica de Pereira about FLISoL Pereira 2024, where I served as the lead organizer.

The interview highlighted the work behind organizing one of the largest Free Software events in Colombia’s Coffee Region and showcased how the local Open Source community has continued to grow through collaboration, education and knowledge sharing.

The event welcomed approximately 500 attendees and featured more than twenty technical talks, workshops and community sessions focused on Linux, Free Software and Open Source technologies.


Background

FLISoL (Festival Latinoamericano de Instalación de Software Libre) is the largest Free Software community event in Latin America, celebrated simultaneously across dozens of cities every year.

The 2024 Pereira edition also commemorated the festival’s twentieth anniversary, bringing together students, software professionals, technology communities and organizations interested in Free Software and digital freedom.

The interview documented both the event itself and the collaborative work required to organize it.
